IT Consulting Firms 2026: Strategy, Delivery, Deadlines

Thirteen firms, the technology practice each one publishes, and the one firm that posts its application deadlines school by school. Read from their own sites.

In short
  • Thirteen firms qualify. Each publishes a named technology practice on its own domain, and we read that page on 29 September 2026.
  • Altman Solon is the only firm on any of our three sector lists that publishes dated application deadlines, school by school, with times in Eastern Time.
  • Deloitte sells no practice called IT consulting. Its own service catalogue names AI & Engineering, Cyber, and Enterprise Performance instead.
  • Accenture has two separate entries, a High Tech industry with five client segments and a Technology Strategy and Consulting service. Bain has two addresses as well.
  • Slalom names 14 services on one page. Capgemini routes applicants by brand rather than by sector, across five named brands.

Thirteen firms publish a technology practice under their own name. One of them publishes its application deadlines with dates and times, which no firm on our healthcare or energy list does. Each line below carries its source page and the date we opened it, checked 29 September 2026.

The test each of these thirteen IT consulting firms passed

Three conditions, applied the same way as on our other sector lists. The firm publishes a technology, digital, or TMT practice on its own domain. That page names at least one client segment or service line. And we opened the page ourselves on the date recorded.

Two firms failed on the second condition rather than on access. The Booz Allen page we read returns Artificial Intelligence Solutions, which is a capability page instead of a named consulting practice, so the firm is absent. KPMG returned 404 on both technology consulting paths we tried, which is the odd part: its healthcare page opened without trouble and it sits on our healthcare list.

One entity is described here only in half. BCG X returned 403 directly and BCG's own not found page through the text proxy, so this page covers BCG Platinion and leaves BCG X out.

No ranking appears below. Four of the ten results on this query are competing preparation platforms, and the two measurable lists sort 62 firms into five tiers off a survey whose sample is never shown. We publish neither their tiers nor a substitute.

Reading about a consulting firm is not preparing for a consulting firm.

Take the readiness check

Thirteen IT consulting firms and the practice each one publishes

Column two gives the label the firm itself uses. Column three lists what that same page names underneath. Column four is the route it publishes for applicants.

Firm What its own site calls the practice Segments or service lines it names there The door it publishes
McKinsey Technology, Media & Telecommunications Consumer Technology & Media, Telecommunications Operators, Enterprise Software, Digital IT Services, Technology Infrastructure none on the practice page; roles sit in the general job search
BCG Technology, Media, and Telecommunications 7 sub-practices, including 5G Technology, Semiconductors, Growth Tech, Future of Television none on the practice page
BCG Platinion a separate BCG entity large scale technology transformation, ERP programs, software development its own application process page
Bain Technology Software, Hardware, IT Services, Semiconductors, plus a separate Vector Digital address none on the practice page
Deloitte AI & Engineering, Cyber, Enterprise Performance no practice named IT consulting anywhere in its catalogue deloitte.com/us/en/careers
EY Technology industry platforms, artificial intelligence, cyber ey.com consulting careers
Accenture High Tech industry, and Technology Strategy and Consulting enterprise technology, consumer technology, network equipment, semiconductors, medical equipment firm wide careers route
IBM IBM Consulting delivery at scale, industry depth, an Institute for Business Value a dedicated consulting careers page
Capgemini five brands, Invent among them Capgemini Invent, Capgemini Engineering, Sogeti, frog, Cambridge Consultants one career path per brand
Slalom 14 named services artificial intelligence, cloud, data, digital product building, systems implementation, privacy and security, zero legacy jobs.slalom.com
Oliver Wyman Communications, Media, and Technology Communications, Media, Technology, Sports and Entertainment none on the practice page
L.E.K. Technology, and a separate Media group consumer tech, enterprise software, technology infrastructure, plus 9 media segments none on the industries hub
Altman Solon TMT only, the whole firm 3 industries and 5 service lines, network planning among them student and experienced routes, with dates
Huron Technology, Media, and Telecommunication one of twelve industries in its own selector careers page organized by industry practice

Altman Solon defines its own category on that services page: "TMT consulting is a form of strategy consulting focused on the telecommunications, media, and technology industries."

Altman Solon, the one IT consulting firm publishing deadlines

This is the only dated recruiting calendar we found across three sector lists and forty table rows. Altman Solon states that "Both entry-level Analyst and Summer/Winter Analyst intern roles will open on Monday, August 10, 2026", then gives a deadline per school, each at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

School Application deadline, 2026 cycle
University of Southern California Tuesday 8 September 2026
Yale University Thursday 10 September 2026
University of California, Los Angeles Thursday 10 September 2026
University of California, Berkeley Monday 14 September 2026
Brown University Thursday 17 September 2026
Harvard University Monday 21 September 2026
All other schools Monday 21 September 2026
Dartmouth College Monday 28 September 2026

Read this as a shape rather than as a live date. All eight deadlines have passed as of 29 September 2026, the day we read the page, and the firm will publish new ones for the next cycle. What the table tells you is that a roughly six week window opens in early August and closes across September, and that the all other schools line is the one most readers fall under.

The eligibility rules are on the same page and are stricter than the dates. The Analyst role is open to undergraduate seniors and to master's students graduating in December 2026 or spring 2027. The Summer and Winter Analyst internships are open to students graduating in December 2027 or spring 2028. A student a year off either window cannot apply, whatever the deadline says.

Where IT consulting firms split, strategy end and delivery end

The list above splits into two halves that behave differently in recruiting, and the firms themselves label the split.

At the strategy end, the client is named and the work is a decision. McKinsey's five groups are client types: telecom operators, enterprise software, technology infrastructure. Bain names four sectors and publishes "2,400+ projects completed in the last five years" alongside "500+ dedicated global partners and experts". Altman Solon calls its own work a form of strategy consulting.

At the delivery end, the service is named and the work is a build. Slalom's page is a list of 14 services rather than a list of industries. IBM publishes a separate consulting careers page. BCG Platinion, whose own site describes it as "where transformation creates organizational success", runs its own application process rather than BCG's.

Deloitte shows how unstable the vocabulary is. Its catalogue contains no practice called IT consulting. What it names instead is AI & Engineering, Cyber, and Enterprise Performance, which are three different interview tracks under one search query.

The reading for an applicant is direct:

  1. Decide which half you want before you pick firms. A case interview and a technical or delivery interview reward different preparation.
  2. Check whether the firm has one door or several. Capgemini routes you by brand, Accenture by industry or by service, Bain by industry or by Vector.
  3. Read the practice page, then the posting. The practice page tells you the client. The posting tells you the job.
  4. Ask what share of the office is billable on build work. Nobody publishes this, so it is a question for a recruiter.

Are you ready to get an offer at a consulting firm?

What the retention number does to a technology case

Software economics bend a case in a specific way, and the bend is arithmetic rather than opinion. Marginal cost on a software unit is near zero and fixed cost is high, so contribution per customer is high and the whole answer moves to how long a customer stays.

Take a product at 100 customers, $1,000 of revenue each per month, and 3 percent monthly churn. Monthly revenue is 100 x $1,000 = $100,000. At 3 percent monthly churn, average customer lifetime is 1 / 0.03 = 33.3 months, so lifetime revenue per customer is $1,000 x 33.3 = $33,300, roughly $33,000 when rounded. Cut churn to 2 percent and lifetime becomes 1 / 0.02 = 50 months, or $50,000 per customer. A single point of monthly churn raised lifetime revenue per customer by about 50 percent.

That is why a technology case that opens on acquisition spend usually lands wrong. Acquisition buys customers into a leaky bucket, and the bucket has a published ceiling. The order that works is retention, then contribution per customer, then acquisition cost against the lifetime number you just computed.

The firms organize around exactly this. McKinsey names Enterprise Software as a client group and Software Product Management & Development as a capability. Bain publishes a software value creation page. Both are retention and product economics under different names.

Read method, and the pages that fought back

Direct fetches worked for BCG Platinion, Oliver Wyman, L.E.K., Accenture, Deloitte, EY, IBM, Capgemini, Slalom, Altman Solon, and Huron. BCG and Bain answer 403 on every path, so their structure came through the r.jina.ai text proxy. McKinsey answers 403 to both routes, so its TMT page was read in the Internet Archive capture of 16 August 2026, using the id_ suffix that serves the original page without the archive toolbar.

Two wrong paths are on the record. The Accenture technology service sits at /us-en/services/technology-index, while /us-en/services/technology returns 404. Both KPMG technology paths we tried returned 404, and we did not find a working one inside this batch.

One number on the McKinsey page is unusable and worth flagging. Its coverage counters, of the form "of top 50 global telecom operators served", render as zero in the archive capture. We do not publish a figure we cannot read, and a zero produced by a rendering failure is exactly the kind of number that travels.

Scale, with the same caveat as our other two lists. The Department of Labor disclosure file for the third quarter of fiscal 2026 records certified filings by employer: Accenture 1,488, BCG 671, McKinsey 455, Bain 111, L.E.K. 35, Oliver Wyman 22. IBM, Capgemini, Slalom, and Altman Solon are outside the extract we built, which covered strategy firms. A filing names a job title and a city, never a practice, so this sizes firms rather than technology teams. Our consulting salary guide reads the same file for what those titles pay.

Drilling the case that decides a technology offer

Technology facts are the part an interviewer supplies. Ask for the churn rate, ask for the contract length, and you will get them. The churn arithmetic above is the part nobody hands you, and getting the order wrong costs more than any missing fact.

Our drills grade one structure, one calculation, or one synthesis and return a scorecard in seconds. The weights sit on our method page and they belong to us: a structure answer scores Coverage 45, Separation 25, Depth 20, Concision 10. We wrote that scale, and none of the thirteen firms above publishes a rubric.

Two limits, stated plainly. The tool teaches no technology content, so it will not explain an ERP migration to you. And our assessment simulators are not running: the /assessments page states that 0 of 6 simulators are live, on the page itself. The drills and the graded scorecard are what exists today, open without an account.

For the neighboring lists, our healthcare consulting firms and energy consulting firms pages use the same inclusion test, and consulting exit opportunities covers where technology consultants go next.

Before you go: where do you actually stand?

A short diagnostic: a few questions about where you are, one real case, and a score on the dimensions firms publish. Free, no card.

Edits the firm and case guides on this site. Reads each claim about a recruiting process back to the firm's own page before it is published, keeps the source ledger dated, and owns the corrections.

How this guide was made

  • Written against a published editorial process, not from memory. Every claim about a firm's process is either linked to that firm's own page or absent. We say what we could not verify rather than filling the gap.
  • Each page carries a dated source ledger, below. When a firm changes a programme or a deadline, the date tells you how far to trust what you just read.

We look for first-hand candidate accounts for every firm guide. Where we found none we could source, the page says so and carries the firm's own words instead. Nothing here is dressed up as testimony, and if your own experience contradicts what you read, tell us and we will correct it and date the change.
