Boston Consulting Group Salary 2026: One Unbroken Scale

Boston Consulting Group salary, rung by rung: a $190,000 Consultant figure filed in 23 US cities, and each rung's ceiling is the floor of the next rung up.

14 min read
In short
  • BCG filed 648 certified Labor Condition Applications in the first three quarters of fiscal 2026, more than any other strategy firm in the file.
  • Seven salary values carry the whole consulting scale: $110,000, $145,000, $190,000, $225,400, $252,900, $268,400, $276,500. Each rung's ceiling is the next rung's floor.
  • The Consultant floor is $190,000 on 244 of 273 filings, across 23 cities. The government benchmark behind those filings runs from $77,709 in Pittsburgh to $130,187 in Mountain View.
  • BCG's own posting of 28 September 2026 states first-year Consultant base at $190,000, matching the filed floor to the dollar.
  • Twenty-two filings are priced hourly. At 2,080 hours they convert back to the same scale: $91.35 an hour is $190,008 a year.

BCG files more salary data with the US Department of Labor than the other two MBB firms combined: 648 certified applications in nine months, against 453 for McKinsey and 100 for Bain in the same file. Each one names a title, a city, and a wage. Read together they show something none of them shows alone. The rungs interlock. Every level's ceiling is the floor of the level above it, so the whole consulting ladder is one continuous scale with seven values on it.

The BCG salary scale, rung by rung

Every row comes from certified Labor Condition Applications decided between 1 October 2025 and 30 June 2026, in the Department of Labor disclosure file for the third quarter of fiscal 2026, checked 29 September 2026. BCG appears on 671 records there, 648 of them certified.

Filed title Leading filed band Filings on that floor All filings Cities
Associate $110,000 to $145,000 57 of 67 67 21
Senior Associate $145,000 to $190,000 17 of 18 18 8
Consultant $190,000 to $225,400 244 of 273 273 23
Project Leader $225,400 to $252,900 88 of 97 97 18
Principal $252,900 to $268,400 13 of 16 16 7
Partner $268,400 to $276,500 5 of 5 5 5

Now read those bands in sequence. Associate runs to $145,000. Senior Associate starts at $145,000 and runs to $190,000. Consultant starts at $190,000 and runs to $225,400. Project Leader starts at $225,400 and runs to $252,900. Principal starts at $252,900 and runs to $268,400. Partner starts at $268,400. Seven numbers across six BCG salary levels, no gaps, no overlaps. That chain is the whole of BCG consulting salary progression: a promotion moves you onto the next value in the list rather than into a band of its own. Project Leader, abbreviated PL, is the fourth of those values, so a BCG project leader salary is $225,400 on 88 of 97 filings. And a BCG starting salary depends on which rung you enter at, the two entry points in this record being $110,000 at Associate, the bottom rung, and the $190,000 Consultant figure BCG's own posting calls first year base compensation.

The count column is filings whose floor is the figure shown, so read it as how dominant that floor was. Many of those filings state no second number at all: of the 273 Consultant filings, 199 carry $190,000 as their only stated value. Off-chain floors exist too, and they are worth naming. Twenty Consultant filings sit at $195,000, four Project Leader filings at $232,200, one Principal filing at $260,500. Each of those falls inside a neighboring band rather than breaking the sequence.

Reading about BCG is not preparing for BCG.

Take the readiness check

One code, two skill levels, and the required wage rule

All 476 consulting filings above sit under a single occupational code, Management Analysts, which is the heading a management consultant salary is filed under. The Labor Department also stamps each filing with a skill level from I to IV, and its record layout defines the money fields: the filed wage is the "Wage paid to nonimmigrant workers at the First Worksite Location", and the benchmark beside it is the "Prevailing Wage for the job being requested for First Worksite Location".

At BCG the level column tracks the title loosely. All 67 Associate filings are level I. The 18 Senior Associate filings split nine and nine between levels I and II. The 273 Consultant filings split 232 at level II and 41 at level III. Everything from Project Leader upward is level IV without exception. So a post-MBA BCG Consultant is usually filed at level II, one notch below the level III that Bain files for the title of the same name, a shift that is one of the ten gaps between BCG and Bain.

That difference has a consequence you can use. Because the level sets which benchmark applies, the same city produces a lower comparison figure for a BCG Consultant than for a Bain Consultant. It changes nothing about the salary. What makes the filed salary informative is a separate rule: the Labor Department's required wage rule says the filed rate "must be the higher of the actual wage rate (the rate the employer pays to all other individuals with similar experience and qualifications who are performing the same job), or the prevailing wage". The filed figure has to clear internal pay for the same job.

BCG's own posting lands on the filed floor to the dollar

The firm states the number itself. Its Consultant, Advanced Degree, United States posting, posted 28 September 2026 according to the structured data on the page, reads: "The first year base compensation for this role is: Consultant: $190,000 USD Annually". That is the same $190,000 carried by 244 of 273 Consultant filings. A BCG consultant salary therefore has two independent public witnesses here, and they agree to the dollar: the firm's own posting and the firm's own filings.

This is the only firm we have checked where the published figure and the filed floor agree exactly. On our McKinsey salary page the posted Business Analyst ceiling sits $5,000 under the filed one, and on our Bain salary page the posted Associate Consultant base sits $3,000 above every Associate Consultant salary Bain filed. Each of those comparisons carries its own sources there. BCG's Consultant number matches at the dollar, which means the filed floor is almost certainly the standing rate rather than an artifact of who happened to be sponsored.

Access is worth noting, because the reader may want to check this. Five other BCG job identifiers tested on 29 September 2026 returned 410 Gone and served only a page footer. The live posting rendered on a plain request with a browser user agent. If the link above has expired by the time you read it, search the BCG careers site for the Consultant, Advanced Degree role and look for the paragraph beginning "The first year base compensation".

Twenty-two filings priced by the hour, converted back

Twenty-two of BCG's 648 certified filings state pay per hour rather than per year. They are not a separate pay scale. Divide the annual rungs by a 2,080 hour year and the hourly figures reappear.

Take the Consultant band filed hourly at $91.35 to $108.37. Multiply the floor: $91.35 times 2,000 is $182,700, and $91.35 times 80 is $7,308, so the year is $190,008. That is the $190,000 rung, with the eight dollars coming from rounding the hourly rate to the cent. Do the ceiling the same way: $108.37 times 2,000 is $216,740, plus $8,669.60 for the remaining 80 hours, giving $225,409.60 against a rung of $225,400.

The other conversions land the same way. An hourly floor of $52.88 gives $109,990.40, which is the $110,000 Associate rung. An hourly $69.71 gives $144,996.80, the $145,000 rung. An hourly $121.59 gives $252,907.20 and an hourly $129.04 gives $268,403.20, which are the Principal floor and the Partner floor. Every figure here is rounded to the nearest cent in the source and reproduced to the cent above.

Why it matters: an hourly filing tells you the firm treats the rung as a rate rather than a negotiated amount. A number that survives being divided by 2,080 and filed again is a number set by policy.

Twenty-three Consultant cities, one floor, a $52,478 benchmark spread

The Consultant floor is $190,000 in every city BCG filed one. The government benchmark attached to those same filings is not flat at all. Here are the 229 annual Consultant filings stamped at level II, by worksite:

Worksite city Benchmark on the filing
Pittsburgh, PA $77,709
Miami, FL $83,387
Detroit, MI $83,637
Philadelphia, PA $83,658
Austin, TX $85,155
Nashville, TN $86,944
Houston, TX $88,130
Dallas, TX $89,024
Atlanta, GA $89,419
Minneapolis, MN $90,293
Durham, NC $91,790
Denver, CO $92,997
San Diego, CA $94,786
Los Angeles, CA $96,491
Chicago, IL $98,946
New York, NY $101,816
Brooklyn, NY $101,816
Summit, NJ $101,816
Washington, DC $106,933
San Francisco, CA $109,554
Seattle, WA $109,803
Boston, MA $118,726
Mountain View, CA $130,187

Mountain View stands $52,478 above Pittsburgh, about 68 percent higher, and BCG's filed salary ignores every dollar of that. New York, Brooklyn, and Summit share one benchmark because they share a metropolitan area. Our pay by city page handles the cost side of the same question.

The parallel tracks BCG files, and which borrow its rungs

BCG filed 74 distinct titles, and the consulting ladder is six of them. The parallel tracks pay on their own scales, which matters if you are being recruited into one of them under the impression that the Consultant number applies.

Filed title Leading filed salary Filings
Forward Deployed AI Scientist $145,000 23 of 34
Data Scientist $110,000 to $160,000 9 of 12
Senior AI Engineer $190,000 to $200,900 5 of 7
Lead Data Scientist $225,400 to $239,200 4 of 4
Senior Analyst, BCG Vantage $108,800 to $121,800 1 of 4
Manager, BCG Vantage $137,250 to $145,050 1 of 3
Inverto Consultant $115,000 to $145,000 2 of 5
Platinion Senior IT Architect $150,000 to $170,000 1 of 3

Two readings. The AI and data titles borrow rung values from the consulting scale, $145,000, $190,000, and $225,400 all reappear, so those tracks are pegged to the same grid at different starting points. The BCG Vantage and Platinion titles do not: their bands fall between consulting rungs and carry few filings each. On those, the filed data is too thin to describe a scale, and we say so rather than drawing one.

Are you ready to get an offer at BCG?

What a filed BCG salary leaves out

A filing carries salary and nothing else. No performance bonus, no signing bonus, no relocation, no retirement contribution. So the $190,000 Consultant floor is a floor on one component of a package with at least four.

BCG names the rest in the same posting. "In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus and BCG's Profit Sharing and Retirement Fund (PSRF) contribution." The benefits list adds "Fully vested retirement contributions made annually, whether you contribute or not", along with zero dollar medical premiums for employees and dependents and $10 copays.

Two things follow. The PSRF is the mechanism that carries profit sharing at BCG, and this posting attaches it to a first-year Consultant role, so it is not reserved for the top of the ladder. And BCG prices none of it: the posting gives no bonus percentage, no PSRF rate, and no cap. Anyone quoting a BCG total compensation figure has added a number the firm did not publish, and this page adds none.

Where MBA class reports meet the BCG salary

Business schools publish consulting outcomes for each graduating class, dated and official. MIT Sloan's 2025 to 2026 employment report gives its Class of 2025 consulting hires a median base of $190,000 with an interquartile range of $190,000 to $192,000. Its $30,000 median signing bonus is reported across all industries rather than for consulting alone, so read it as a market figure. The same report names Boston Consulting Group the single largest employer of the class, with 26 hires.

That interquartile range is the most useful line in it. A 25th percentile equal to the median means post-MBA consulting base is set by rung rather than settled candidate by candidate, which is exactly what 199 identical Consultant filings show from the other direction.

Kellogg reports the same $190,000 median and the same $30,000 median signing bonus, measured three months after graduation, for the 38 percent of its Class of 2025 who went into consulting. Booth sends 37.8 percent of its class into the function and reports a $30,000 median signing bonus across all functions, with an all function base median of $175,000 that is not a consulting figure and should not be read as one. Three schools converge on the signing bonus. None of them breaks any figure out by firm.

What moves once the BCG salary is fixed

The filings tell you where to spend your negotiating attention. A firm that files one Consultant floor in 23 cities, and states the same figure in a live posting, has a rate rather than an opening position.

  1. Start date. Usually the cheapest thing to ask for. It buys weeks rather than dollars.
  2. Signing bonus. Discretionary, paid once, and the standard home for a competing offer. Three school reports put the class median at $30,000.
  3. Relocation support. Policy driven and different by office. Get the terms in writing rather than in a phone summary.
  4. Office, and the practice that staffs you. Neither is money and both outrank it, because they set your clients, your travel, and your reviewers.
  5. Which track you enter. The table above shows what the AI, Vantage, and Platinion rungs pay. Moving between tracks is a bigger financial decision than moving between cities.

Quote a named source. "MIT Sloan reports a $190,000 consulting median base with a $30,000 median signing bonus for its Class of 2025" is a sentence a recruiter can verify. Negotiating a consulting offer covers the rest of the sequence, and the consulting salary guide puts these rungs beside other firms on the same footing.

What this page cannot establish

BCG Managing Director and Partner salary. BCG's five Partner filings top out at $276,500, which is the highest BCG partner salary anywhere in this record and not a statement about what a partner earns. Senior compensation at a partnership is a share of firm results, moves with the year, and is published nowhere. Any seven figure BCG partner number in circulation is an estimate, usually an unsourced one.

Total first-year cash. No source read here adds base, bonus, and PSRF into one figure, because no source publishes the second and third. We could produce a total by guessing, and a guess with a dollar sign in front of it reads like a measurement.

Pay for staff no filing covers. A Labor Condition Application exists only where a role is filed for sponsorship. The required wage rule ties the filed number to comparable internal pay, and that is the strongest claim available from this data. It leaves a large sample rather than a census.

Anything outside the United States. This file is a US government record. BCG's live posting states a US figure. Offices elsewhere have their own scales, their own allowances, and their own tax treatment.

Reading an exhibit under a clock, before the offer exists

Every figure above describes people who already hold the offer. Getting one runs through the BCG case interview, and one step in it is the reason the chart drill below exists: a chart lands in front of you and you have a minute to say what it means for the client.

Our chart drill scores that answer on four weights we wrote ourselves, read from src/lib/grading/rubrics.ts: So what 30, Observation 25, Implication 25, Next test 20. The largest weight sits on the conclusion rather than on the description, which is a judgment we made when writing the scale and which the method page argues for. Those weights are ours. No consulting firm publishes a marking scheme, and the method page sets out how ours were built.

Two limits, stated where you can see them. The drills teach no business content, because the exercise tests reasoning over recall. And our assessment simulators are switched off: the /assessments page counts 0 of 6 simulators live, in those words, on the page itself. The drills and the graded scorecard run today, without an account.

The version of this page we replaced, and why

29 September 2026. The previous version of this page was about 400 words long and published no salary at all. It argued that BCG publishes no grid, so we would publish nothing either. That was wrong twice over.

BCG does publish a base salary in its live postings, and it was doing so the day that version went up. The Labor Department file holding 648 certified BCG filings was public too. The earlier page had opened neither, which made its restraint an absence of research rather than a standard. It also asserted that BCG's figures "move by office and by country", and the office half is contradicted by 23 cities carrying one Consultant floor.

The one source that version did carry, MIT Sloan's employment report, was sound and is still quoted above. What it could not do was describe BCG. A class median covers every consulting employer that class went to, and the earlier page let it stand in for a BCG figure because nothing closer had been looked for. Every number here now comes from a government record, from BCG's own posting, or from a named school report, each carrying the date it was read and the method used to read it.

30 September 2026. The rung table on this page first went up with the wrong count in four of its six rows, because it had been built from a first pass over the file that mixed certified filings with withdrawn and denied ones. The bands themselves did not change. The counts now read 57 of 67 at Associate, 17 of 18 at Senior Associate, 88 of 97 at Project Leader and 5 of 5 at Partner, all on certified filings only, which is the same basis our BCG levels page uses. The Consultant row also showed 199 where it should have shown 244: 244 filings carry a floor of $190,000, and 199 of those state that figure with no second number beside it. Both counts are real and they answer different questions, so both now appear with the difference spelled out.

How this guide was made

  • Written against a published editorial process, not from memory. Every claim about a firm's process is either linked to that firm's own page or absent. We say what we could not verify rather than filling the gap.
  • Each page carries a dated source ledger, below. When a firm changes a programme or a deadline, the date tells you how far to trust what you just read.

We look for first-hand candidate accounts for every firm guide. Where we found none we could source, the page says so and carries the firm's own words instead. Nothing here is dressed up as testimony, and if your own experience contradicts what you read, tell us and we will correct it and date the change.

Something wrong or out of date here? Tell us and we will correct it and date the change.
