CEIBS MBA 2026 Consulting Placement: What 97 Reported

CEIBS publishes its MBA2026 career report in full. Six of the 55 accepted offers went into consulting, and here is every denominator sitting behind that number.

9 min read
In short
  • The MBA2026 career report covers 97 graduates with a 100 percent response rate. Of those, 62 were seeking work and 55 accepted an offer.
  • Consulting took 10.9 percent of accepted offers by industry and 12.7 percent by function. On 55 acceptances that is six people and seven people.
  • The 2026 report publishes no salary by industry. The consulting median of RMB 597,000 belongs to the MBA2025 report and stays there.
  • More MBA2026 students arrived from consulting than left for it: 19.2 percent of 104 enrolled, against six of 55 acceptances. The two bases differ and the school does not compare them.
  • The employer list merges full-time hires with summer interns and turns over year to year. Bain and BCG appear in 2026 and not in 2025; Accenture and Roland Berger do the reverse.

Six of the 55 accepted offers in the CEIBS MBA2026 class were in consulting, by industry. Seven were consulting by function. The school publishes both percentages and neither headcount, so the arithmetic below is ours, and every step of it runs on figures printed in the school's own report. Both live vintages were read at ceibs.edu, checked 1 October 2026.

The funnel from 97 graduates down to 55 signatures

Start with the sentence the report puts on its own data. It reads: "All the information and analysis enclosed in this report is based on 97 responses ( Response Rate: 100% ) received from the MBA students who graduated in 2026 in the 3 months following graduation."

That sentence opens the MBA2026 career report. A hundred percent response rate is rare and it makes this report unusually easy to check. Here is the whole funnel, and it reconciles exactly.

Stage Count Share of the stage above
MBA2026 graduates 97 published as a count
Seeking employment 62 63.9 percent of 97
Not seeking employment 35 36.1 percent of 97
Received at least one offer 57 91.9 percent of 62
Accepted an offer 55 88.7 percent of 62
Still seeking 7 11.3 percent of 62

Check the two rates against the counts. 88.7 percent of 62 is 54.99, which rounds to 55. 11.3 percent of 62 is 7.01, which rounds to 7. Those two add back to 62. The 35 who were not seeking break down as nine already employed or company sponsored, four postponing the search, seventeen starting a business as owner or founder, and five for other reasons. Nine plus four plus seventeen plus five is 35.

That third line deserves a pause. Seventeen of 97 graduates, 17.5 percent, left to found something. In a North American report that line is usually a rounding error. Here it is larger than the entire consulting cohort.

Reading about a consulting firm is not preparing for a consulting firm.

Take the readiness check

Two CEIBS MBA consulting percentages, and what each counts

The report gives consulting twice. By industry of employment it is 10.9 percent. By function it is 12.7 percent. Both sit on the same base of 55 acceptances, which is verifiable: 10.9 percent of 55 is 5.995 and 12.7 percent of 55 is 6.985. Six people and seven people.

The gap is a real thing rather than a rounding artifact. Somebody who joins a manufacturer as an internal strategy manager counts in the function bucket and in the manufacturing industry bucket. The industry line answers "who signs the contract" and the function line answers "what the work is."

Now the trap this page exists to name. The report also prints a pre-MBA consulting share of 19.2 percent. That figure sits on a different base. Multiply it by the 104 enrolled students and you get 19.97, so twenty people. Multiply it by 97 graduates and you get 18.6, which would have printed as 19.6 percent rather than 19.2. The base is enrollment.

So the honest sentence is this. Twenty of 104 enrolled students arrived from a consulting industry, and six of 55 accepted offers went back into one. Those are different populations measured at different moments, and the school never puts them side by side. Anybody who does should say so out loud, as we just have.

Why a consulting salary sends you to the older report

The MBA2026 report publishes a median base salary of RMB 408,000 and a median annual guaranteed cash figure of RMB 480,000, with a range from RMB 208,000 to RMB 1,600,000. It publishes no breakdown by industry and none by function. The pages that carried those two tables in the previous vintage now carry a spread on graduates who founded companies.

The MBA2025 report does carry them. Its consulting industry line reads RMB 597,000 median with a range from RMB 240,000 to RMB 700,000, and its consulting function line reads RMB 610,000 median with a range from RMB 180,000 to RMB 800,000.

Three cautions before anyone quotes that 597,000.

  1. It is a different class. MBA2025 and MBA2026 are consecutive vintages. Carrying a 2025 salary into a 2026 table is the single most common way these profiles go wrong.
  2. The perimeter is wider than base pay. "Annual guaranteed cash" is base plus other guaranteed compensation. The class base median in that same report is RMB 420,000, well below the consulting guaranteed cash figure.
  3. The denominator is small and it is not the placement denominator. The report states its salary statistics rest "on 61 responses who have useable salary information, among 72 job-accepting MBA2025 graduates (Response Rate: 84.7%)." Consulting was 9.7 percent of those 72, which is 6.98, so seven people. At most seven of them reported salary. A median over seven observations moves a long way when one person changes job.

One more arithmetic detail worth carrying away, because it catches careful readers. In MBA2025 the median base is RMB 420,000 and the median other guaranteed compensation is RMB 95,000. Those sum to RMB 515,000, while the published median guaranteed cash is RMB 496,000. The RMB 19,000 gap is correct and expected. Medians do not add, and only 32 of the 61 salary responses reported any other guaranteed compensation at all.

The currency question, answered once

We keep CEIBS figures in yuan. The school reports in yuan and the jobs are paid in yuan. Shanghai alone accounts for 65.4 percent of MBA2026 job locations, and the five mainland locations the report names sum to 81.8 percent, against 16.4 percent across six Asia-Pacific lines and 1.8 percent for the single European one. Those three add to 100.0, which is how we checked the reading. Converting invites a reader to compare a Shanghai package with a New York package as though rent, tax and bonus structure were the same.

If you still want one number in dollars, use a named rate and say when it was taken. The Federal Reserve H.10 weekly release dated 28 September 2026 gives 6.7110 yuan per U.S. dollar for 25 September 2026. At that rate:

CEIBS figure Yuan At 6.7110 per dollar
MBA2026 median base salary 408,000 about US$60,800
MBA2026 median guaranteed cash 480,000 about US$71,520
MBA2025 consulting industry median 597,000 about US$88,960

Each conversion is rounded to the nearest ten dollars, and the arithmetic is plain division. 597,000 divided by 6.7110 is 88,958. That rate is a market rate on one day. It is not a cost of living adjustment, and a package worth US$88,960 in Shanghai does not buy what US$88,960 buys in Chicago.

Are you ready to get an offer at a consulting firm?

Reading the employer list without over-reading it

CEIBS heads its employer list "EMPLOYER LIST (Full-Time & Summer Internship)". That parenthesis does most of the work. A firm on the list may have taken a summer intern and no full-time graduate, and the report never separates the two.

The list also turns over. We compared both vintages by string count:

Firm MBA2025 list MBA2026 list
McKinsey & Company present present
Deloitte present present
Bain & Company absent present
Boston Consulting Group absent present
Accenture present absent
Roland Berger present absent
Simon-Kucher absent present

Two years of a list that names roughly a hundred employers, from a class of about a hundred people, cannot be read as a stable roster. It is a record of who showed up that year. The right conclusion from the table above is that all three of the largest strategy firms have engaged with CEIBS recently, and that no year's list proves any of them made a full-time offer.

The school also names its clubs, fourteen of them, including a Management Consulting Club. It publishes nothing at all about what that club does, charges or produces. An admitted student can settle that with one email to the MBA office. From outside the school it stays unknowable.

The CEIBS MBA recruiting calendar, as the school prints it

The MBA2025 report carries a dated recruitment calendar, which is the most useful page in it for anybody planning backwards. These dates are the school's, for the 2025 to 2026 season, and they will shift by a week or two each year.

  1. 1 September. Full-time job postings open, internship postings open, and the MBA2026 resume book goes to recruiters.
  2. 8 September. Campus presentations begin.
  3. 1 November. The earliest response date the school recommends for a full-time offer.
  4. 14 January. The CEIBS MBA recruitment fair.
  5. 21 March. Graduation for the MBA2026 class.
  6. 22 June. The MBA2027 summer internship season kicks off.

Read line one against line five. Postings open about six and a half months before graduation, and the program is a 16-month full-time degree with a one-year option. Your case preparation therefore has to be finished before the first September, because September is the month the applications land.

McKinsey states on its own MBA careers page that "Deadlines may vary based on your school's location and preferred office," and its published entry title after an MBA is Associate, with an 8 to 10 week Summer Associate internship. A candidate at CEIBS aiming at a Greater China office and a candidate aiming at a European office are on two different clocks, and the firm says so.

Where preparation time is best spent before that September

A full case returns one impression per hour of work. It does not tell you which of six skills lost you the interview, and that is the one thing a preparation plan needs in order to allocate time.

Run one drill of each type first: math, structuring, brainstorming, exhibit reading, synthesis, and market sizing. Read the dimension each one names as its first correction. Then work only that dimension until it stops being the one you lose.

These weights are ours and no firm publishes a rubric. Structures here are scored on Coverage 45, Separation 25, Depth 20 and Concision 10; a closing is scored on Answer first 35, Evidence 25, Risk 20 and Next step 20. The reasoning behind each weight is on how an answer is assessed. The structuring drill returns the dimension to fix instead of a grade, and the free drills run without an account.

They teach no business content and they do not play an interviewer. For the wider question of where this school's 10.9 percent sits against other programs, our MBA consulting placement comparison covers it, and the MBA consulting recruiting timeline sets out the season in general terms.

What CEIBS does not publish about MBA consulting, stated plainly

The school is more transparent than most, and the gaps are still real.

It does not say how many of the six consulting signings are in strategy consulting rather than another kind. There is one bucket called Consulting and nothing inside it. It does not publish a consulting salary for the MBA2026 class at all. It does not say which firm made a full-time offer, because the employer list merges hiring with internships. It does not publish a conversion rate from summer internship to full-time offer, at either vintage.

It also sends visitors to a form. The page titled "MBA 2026 Career Report" routes to a download form asking for your employer, job title and phone number. Both PDFs are served directly from the school's own file store without any form, and that is where we read them. The addresses are in our source ledger above.

One last note on our own method. The file server answers 403 to every HEAD request, including for files that exist. We nearly concluded that the MBA2026 report had not been published, on the strength of six failed probes. It had. A GET request returned it in full.

Before you go: where do you actually stand?

A short diagnostic: a few questions about where you are, one real case, and a score on the dimensions firms publish. Free, no card.

Edits the firm and case guides on this site. Reads each claim about a recruiting process back to the firm's own page before it is published, keeps the source ledger dated, and owns the corrections.

How this guide was made

  • Written against a published editorial process, not from memory. Every claim about a firm's process is either linked to that firm's own page or absent. We say what we could not verify rather than filling the gap.
  • Each page carries a dated source ledger, below. When a firm changes a programme or a deadline, the date tells you how far to trust what you just read.

We look for first-hand candidate accounts for every firm guide. Where we found none we could source, the page says so and carries the firm's own words instead. Nothing here is dressed up as testimony, and if your own experience contradicts what you read, tell us and we will correct it and date the change.

Something wrong or out of date here? Tell us and we will correct it and date the change.
