PwC Consulting Salary 2026: The Grade Bands PwC Publishes

The PwC consulting salary, grade by grade: the Advisory range PwC publishes for New York runs $58,500 to $541,000, beside what it filed in 52 US cities.

In short
  • PwC hosts a public pay range page for each grade in each line of business, covering New York City and Westchester County.
  • The Advisory ladder runs Associate $58,500 to $100,000, Senior Associate $67,500 to $197,000, Manager $98,000 to $232,000, Senior Manager $116,500 to $256,000, Director $137,000 to $314,000, Managing Director $271,000 to $541,000.
  • The Assurance ladder is published in the same format, and its floor sits above the Advisory floor at the first three grades.
  • PwC files salaries through two entities that use the same five grade names. Advisory Services filed a $166,500 Senior Associate median, the other entity $114,000.
  • At Associate level the posted New York ceiling of $100,000 is exceeded by 15 of the 40 New York filings. At Manager and above no filing reaches the posted ceiling.

PwC hosts a public pay range page for every grade in every line of business, covering New York City and Westchester County. The consulting ladder sits under the Advisory heading. It starts at $58,500 for an Associate and reaches $541,000 for a Managing Director, and every rung between them is published.

The PwC consulting salary range page, grade by grade

The pages follow one URL pattern, one page per line of business and grade. Each carries a single sentence, and the Associate page reads: "Salary range: $58,500 - $100,000, plus may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable laws."

Advisory grade Published New York range Width
"Advisory Specialist" $39,500 to $83,000 $43,500
Associate $58,500 to $100,000 $41,500
Associate 2 $58,500 to $118,000 $59,500
Senior Associate $67,500 to $197,000 $129,500
Manager $98,000 to $232,000 $134,000
Senior Manager $116,500 to $256,000 $139,500
Director $137,000 to $314,000 $177,000
Managing Director $271,000 to $541,000 $270,000

Every row was checked 29 September 2026, from Internet Archive captures of 15, 18 and 20 May 2026, because the host does not resolve from our network. The access method sits in this page's source ledger.

Two things stand out. The floor barely moves between Associate and Associate 2, both at $58,500. And the bands overlap heavily: the Senior Associate ceiling of $197,000 sits above the Manager floor of $98,000 and close to the Senior Manager floor of $116,500. A grade name on its own places you inside a very wide window.

Reading about a consulting firm is not preparing for a consulting firm.

Take the readiness check

PwC consulting salary against audit, and where audit leads

PwC publishes the Assurance ladder in the identical format. Setting the two side by side is the cleanest audit against consulting comparison any of the Big Four offers, because both numbers come from the same firm, the same city and the same month.

Grade Advisory Assurance
Associate $58,500 to $100,000 $70,000 to $121,500
Associate 2 $58,500 to $118,000 $74,800 to $121,500
Senior Associate $67,500 to $197,000 $73,700 to $191,000
Manager $98,000 to $232,000 $99,500 to $260,200
Senior Manager $116,500 to $256,000 $117,400 to $307,500
Director $137,000 to $314,000 $136,400 to $365,500
Managing Director $271,000 to $541,000 $200,200 to $539,000

The direction reverses twice as you climb. At Associate the audit floor sits $11,500 above the consulting floor. From Manager upward the audit ceiling pulls ahead instead, by $28,200 at Manager and by $51,500 at both Senior Manager and Director. At Managing Director the consulting floor is $70,800 higher.

Read that as a statement about band design rather than about who earns more. A wide audit ceiling at senior grades can reflect a handful of very senior technical experts held inside one grade name. What the table does settle is that the popular claim that consulting pays more than audit at PwC has no support in PwC's own published bands at the entry grades.

One Manager grade, five lines, and the PwC consulting band

The same URL pattern covers five lines of business. Holding the grade and the city fixed, here is what the firm publishes for a Manager.

Line of business Published Manager range
Tax $114,400 to $266,000
Assurance $99,500 to $260,200
Advisory $98,000 to $232,000
Products and Technology $91,000 to $207,000
Internal Firm Services $84,500 to $240,000

The floor spans $29,900 from Tax at the top to Internal Firm Services at the bottom. Consulting sits third of five on the floor and fourth of five on the ceiling, since Internal Firm Services reaches $240,000 where Advisory stops at $232,000.

This is the single most useful correction to the way PwC pay gets discussed. The brand is one firm, and the grade name is shared across all five ladders, so "Manager at PwC" describes five different bands. Anyone quoting a PwC figure without naming the line of business is quoting an average of five populations. Our consulting salary guide keeps the same discipline across other firms.

Two PwC entities, the same grade names, different pay

PwC also files salaries with the US Department of Labor, and it does so through two separate legal entities that use identical grade names. Everything below comes from certified filings decided between 1 October 2025 and 30 June 2026, in the third quarter fiscal 2026 disclosure file.

Grade filed Advisory Services, filings Advisory median PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, filings Its median
Associate 81 $99,000 23 $84,000
Senior Associate 270 $166,500 33 $114,000
Manager 219 $184,000 35 $166,000
Senior Manager 119 $210,000 17 $190,000
Director 65 $261,000 4 $215,000

Advisory Services is the higher payer at every grade, by $52,500 at Senior Associate and $46,000 at Director. The composition explains most of it. Of the 112 records filed by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, 79 carry the occupational code Accountants and Auditors. Advisory Services leads instead with Operations Research Analysts at 211 records, Computer and Information Systems Managers at 179, and Software Developers at 94, with the code Management Analysts on just 12 of the 754.

So the consulting entity files a heavily quantitative and technological population, and the audit entity files auditors. Neither entity name appears on a PwC business card, which is exactly why a candidate cannot tell from the outside which one an offer will come from.

The salary of PwC Advisory, filed city by city

Advisory Services filed across 52 cities, and unlike the New York range page those filings let you see the geography. Only cities with at least ten filings at a grade are shown.

Worksite city Senior Associate median Filings Manager median Filings
New York, NY $180,000 62 $188,000 27
Chicago, IL $178,000 39 $178,500 20
Boston, MA $175,000 11
San Francisco, CA $168,000 15 $202,000 11
San Jose, CA $197,000 14
Seattle, WA $157,000 21
Washington, DC $154,000 19
Florham Park, NJ $147,000 13 $195,000 12
Dallas, TX $143,000 27 $177,000 20

New York sits $37,000 above Dallas at Senior Associate. At Manager the ranking changes hands: San Francisco leads New York by $14,000. So the city premium is real and it is not stable across grades. Our pay by city page carries the cross firm view.

For a market reference at the post-MBA entry point, the MIT Sloan 2025 employment report puts the class consulting median base at $190,000 with a $30,000 median signing bonus. PwC Advisory's filed Senior Associate median sits $23,500 below that class median.

Are you ready to get an offer at a consulting firm?

Where the posted PwC salary ceiling binds, and where it does not

The range page covers New York City and Westchester County, and the filings name New York as a worksite. That makes one test possible: does the published ceiling actually cap what PwC files there?

Grade Published New York ceiling Highest New York filing Filings above the ceiling
Associate $100,000 $116,000 15 of the 40
Senior Associate $197,000 $197,000 none of the 62
Manager $232,000 $209,000 none of the 27
Senior Manager $256,000 $235,000 none of the 13
Director $314,000 $294,000 none of the 11

Three readings come out of that table. At Associate the published ceiling is routinely exceeded, and the median New York Associate filing is exactly $100,000, sitting on the ceiling. The likely explanation is the Associate 2 grade, whose published ceiling of $118,000 sits above the highest filing of $116,000. At Senior Associate the ceiling binds exactly: five filings sit at $197,000 and none above.

From Manager upward the ceiling stops describing anything. The highest Manager filing falls $23,000 short of it, the highest Senior Manager filing $21,000 short, the highest Director filing $20,000 short. Quoting the top of a published band as your expectation at those grades has no support in what PwC actually files.

What the PwC salary range page leaves out

PwC's own sentence limits itself to salary and one hedge: eligibility for "an annual discretionary bonus". No target percentage is given. The filings are narrower still, carrying only the base wage at the first worksite.

So three components of a PwC offer are absent from every primary source read for this page.

  1. Annual bonus. Named as discretionary, quantified nowhere public, and the component that grows fastest with grade at most firms.
  2. Signing bonus. Absent from both PwC sources. The nearest dated figure is a class median of $30,000 across all consulting employers.
  3. Retirement and benefits. Described in general terms on the careers site, with no dollar value attached.

One legal point makes the filings worth more than a visa statistic. The Department of Labor rule on the required wage states that "the required wage rate must be the higher of the actual wage rate (the rate the employer pays to all other individuals with similar experience and qualifications who are performing the same job), or the prevailing wage". A filed figure therefore has to clear what PwC pays comparable staff in the same job and city.

Which parts of a PwC offer actually move

The band is published before you apply, so the negotiation is about where you land inside it and what sits alongside it. In rough order of how often each one moves:

  1. Start date. The cheapest ask and the one granted most often.
  2. Signing bonus. One time and discretionary, and the standard answer to a competing offer.
  3. Line of business. Worth $16,400 on a Manager floor between Tax and Advisory, and it decides your client work for years.
  4. Office. Worth $37,000 at the Senior Associate median between New York and Dallas.
  5. Grade. Associate against Associate 2 changes the published ceiling by $18,000 on the same floor, so ask which grade the requisition carries.

Bring PwC's own page to the conversation. "Your published Advisory Manager range for New York runs to $232,000" is a sentence a recruiter can verify without leaving their desk. Our offer negotiation guide covers how to sequence the asks.

Practicing the estimate a PwC case opens with

A PwC Advisory offer runs through a case interview, and most of those cases open with a number you have to build rather than look up. Our market sizing drill grades an estimate and returns a scorecard in seconds. The weights it applies are our own work, listed on our method page, and no firm publishes a marking scheme for comparison.

Dimension Weight we assign, out of 100
Assumption chain 30
Scope 25
Arithmetic 25
Sanity check 20

Note where the weight sits. The chain of assumptions carries more than the arithmetic, because an estimate built on a defensible chain survives a wrong multiplication and the reverse is rarely true. Two limits on the tool. It teaches no business content. And our assessment simulators are not running: the /assessments page states that 0 of 6 simulators are live, in its own text rather than in a footnote. The drills and the scorecard are what exists, free to open without an account.

For the round itself, our PwC case interview guide covers the format and what the interviewer is doing at each step.

What the earlier PwC page on this URL got wrong

29 September 2026. An earlier version of this page ran to about 330 words under the heading "What we will not print here". It said that PwC does not publish a consulting salary figure and that no primary source does either.

Both statements were wrong at the time they were written. PwC hosts a public pay range page for every grade in every line of business, and those pages are the ones its job ads link to. PwC also files hundreds of salaries a year with the Department of Labor under grade names a candidate would recognize. The earlier page had consulted neither.

That version closed by saying that everything in circulation before the offer letter is somebody's estimate, ours included if we tried. The published bands and the federal filings are measurements rather than estimates, and refusing to read them was presented as caution. It cost the reader the whole answer.

30 September 2026. One sentence in the line of business section said consulting sits third of five on the ceiling. It is fourth: Internal Firm Services publishes a Manager ceiling of $240,000 against Advisory's $232,000. The floors ranking was right and is unchanged. The published figures in the table were correct throughout, and the error was in the sentence reading them.

How this guide was made

  • Written against a published editorial process, not from memory. Every claim about a firm's process is either linked to that firm's own page or absent. We say what we could not verify rather than filling the gap.
  • Each page carries a dated source ledger, below. When a firm changes a programme or a deadline, the date tells you how far to trust what you just read.

We look for first-hand candidate accounts for every firm guide. Where we found none we could source, the page says so and carries the firm's own words instead. Nothing here is dressed up as testimony, and if your own experience contradicts what you read, tell us and we will correct it and date the change.
